Dr. Syed Ahmed, PhD, MBA, CEng

Advisor

Dr. Syed Ahmed is a senior-level manager with extensive experience in renewable energy systems, electricity markets, transmission and distribution, system strategy, and planning. He has led the integration of renewable energy sources, overseeing the preparation of bilateral connection and construction agreements, project development, and the successful delivery of utility-scale projects. His expertise includes stakeholder engagement, electric system pricing and regulation, policy development, financial modeling, and competitive proposal development.

With a proven track record of delivering projects on time and under budget, Dr. Ahmed excels in mentoring junior staff and driving new business initiatives. His ability to analyze and optimize project cost benefits has contributed to successful bids in competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) processes. He is also recognized for his outstanding presentation skills, effectively communicating complex energy concepts to diverse audiences.

Dr. Ahmed’s experience spans major power markets, including ISO New England, New York ISO, MISO, PJM, ERCOT, and the Great Britain System Operator. He has played a pivotal role in renewable generation interconnection projects—covering solar, onshore, and offshore wind—while contributing to grid pricing strategies and regulatory submissions, including Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). Notably, he was an active participant in the 100% Renewable Grid Code Design Committee within ENOWA, NEOM, and contributed to the development of Grid Security Standards for HVDC Backbone Grids.

His expertise extends to providing expert testimony before state regulators, supporting regulatory pricing and rate control cases in Massachusetts, New York, and the UK. He has also conducted market power assessments for market monitoring analysis. Additionally, Dr. Ahmed is an active member of IEEE working groups focused on resource adequacy, grid interconnection of inverter-based resources (IEEE 2800), and software model validation for power system studies (IEEE 2882).

As a Chartered Engineer and Senior Member of IEEE, Dr. Ahmed continues to be a thought leader in the renewable energy sector, advocating for sustainable and innovative power system solutions.

Dr. Md Shahin Alam

Dr. Md Shahin Alam is an esteemed academic and researcher in the field of electrical engineering, specializing in modern power distribution systems, energy management, and renewable energy integration. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at Illinois State University, Normal, IL, USA.

Dr. Alam earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Oakland University, Michigan, and has over a decade of teaching experience across multiple institutions. His research focuses on optimizing the planning and operation of modern power distribution networks, with expertise in renewable energy, energy storage, electric vehicle integration, and smart grid technologies. He has made significant contributions to the advancement of isolated microgrids and sustainable energy solutions.

As an Advisor to Green Energies In Motion (GEIM), Dr. Alam brings valuable insights into energy efficiency strategies, distributed energy resources, and the development of innovative solutions for a sustainable future. His deep understanding of power systems and commitment to renewable energy make him a key contributor to the organization’s mission of driving clean energy transformation.

Abdle Mnam

Advisor

Dr. Abdle Mnam is a seasoned electrical engineer with extensive expertise in power systems, renewable energy integration, and grid reliability. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University, South Carolina, and has since contributed significantly to the energy sector through his work in transmission, distribution protection, and distributed energy resource (DER) planning.

Dr. Mnam began his professional career at Quanta Technology, where he worked across multiple disciplines, including transmission, distribution protection, and distribution planning. In 2020, he joined Eversource Energy as a Senior DER Planning Engineer, where he performed critical steady-state and time-domain dynamic analyses, including temporary overvoltage (TOV), ground fault overvoltage (GFOV), and islanding studies using PSCAD. His expertise also extended to alternative switching studies on DER circuits, ensuring system stability and compliance.

In 2021, Dr. Mnam transitioned to Georgia Power, initially serving as a Senior Engineer in Reliability. There, he conducted solar witness testing to verify compliance with industry standards and performed distribution protection coordination studies using CYME. Currently, as part of Georgia Power’s Distribution Interconnection Planning team, he leads impact studies on DERs, assessing their effects on the grid and ensuring seamless integration of renewable energy sources.

As an advisor to Green Energies In Motion (GEIM), Dr. Mnam brings invaluable experience in DER integration, power system analysis, and grid reliability. His deep technical knowledge and industry expertise support GEIM’s mission to advance sustainable energy solutions and enhance the resilience of modern power systems.

Ashraf Alshemary

Advisor

Ashraf Alshemary is an accomplished electrical and control engineer with extensive experience in power generation systems and hydro-generation technologies. He holds a master’s degree in Electrical and Control Engineering from McNeese State University, Lake Charles, LA, USA.

Since 2016, Mr. Alshemary has been a Design Engineer at the Bureau of Reclamation in Mills, WY, where he plays a pivotal role in managing power generation systems for dams. His expertise spans both design and testing engineering, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of hydroelectric power systems.

Beyond his professional work, Mr. Alshemary has made significant contributions to the advancement of hydro-generation and electric machine technologies. His research has been presented at various industry conferences and published in prominent journals, reflecting his commitment to innovation and the continuous improvement of renewable energy systems.

Dr. Cunzhi Zhao

Dr. Cunzhi Zhao, PhD

Dr. Cunzhi Zhao is a dedicated researcher and educator in the field of electrical engineering, currently serving as an Assistant Professor at McNeese State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston in 2023 and has since been actively engaged in both academia and applied research.

With expertise spanning microgrid energy management, battery energy storage systems (BESS), power system optimization, and smart grids, Dr. Zhao plays a crucial role in advancing sustainable energy solutions. His research delves into predictive battery lifespan modeling, degradation-aware scheduling, and the integration of advanced energy storage into modern power systems. By leveraging deep learning techniques for battery degradation assessment, he contributes to the development of more efficient, resilient, and sustainable energy storage solutions.
